The Life and Times of Brad Pitt

By Sredna Nesegleh

Brad Pitt is one of the most recognized men in the world. It may largely be in part to his classic good looks and smile, but it is most because of his ability to take a character and make it his own. While he started off in uncredited roles and bit parts on television shows, he was able to parlay that into a career that most people would be jealous of. From his supporting role in Thelma and Louise to the title role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Brad Pitt is one actor that everyone is looking forward to seeing more of.

Early Life

William Bradley "Brad" Pitt was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on December 18, 1963. His parents, Jane and William, worked as a high school counselor and truck company owner, respectively. No one would have thought when he was growing up in Oklahoma that he would see such great success in the entertainment world. While attending high school, he was in musicals and was involved in several school clubs as well. He attended the University of Missouri and almost received his degree-leaving two weeks before graduation to move to Los Angeles to start his career.

Career Start

Movies were destined to be the path that Brad Pitt would travel, but he was first cast in several uncredited movie roles. He then guest starred in different television shows, including soap operas, dramas, and sitcoms. The first credited movie role that he had was in a United States-Yugoslavian move partnership called The Dark Side of the Sun. He did not stop there, however, he moved on to getting other movie roles, including the supporting role that got him the most attention-in Thelma and Louise.

Making Him a Star

In 1994, Interview With a Vampire was released and this movie is said to mark the turning point in Pitt's career. Even though it was not received well by most critics, it is a role that teenagers especially loved, as he won two MTV Awards that year. He had many more movie roles after this movie, including Legends of the Fall, Seven Years in Tibet, Seven, and 12 Monkeys. The latter movie garnered him his first Golden Globe award and helped to propel his career into new heights. Of his latest movies, most people know him for his role in the Ocean's Eleven series of movies, as well as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Inglourious Basterds, and Moneyball.

The Varied Interests of Brad

One of the most interesting things about Brad Pitt is that he is very involved in many different political and social causes. He encouraged people to vote in the 2004 Presidential Election and has supported the ONE Campaign, Proposition 71, many environmental causes, and more. He and Angelina Jolie have started their own foundation as well to aid humanitarian causes all over the world.

Personal Life

Brad Pitt has had many different women on his arm since he started his career. His marriage to Jennifer Aniston seemed to be that of a fairytale, but it ended in 2005. Some say that the divorce is due to his relationship with his co-star at the time, Angelina Jolie. Whatever the cause, he has been in a committed relationship with Jolie since then and they are parents to six children, both adopted and naturally born. Reports recently say that they are engaged, so time will tell in this situation.

There is a lot to Brad Pitt. He has played numerous roles during his career and his appeal is what keeps people coming back time and time again to watch his new offerings. His career and his commitment to his family still has women swooning even twenty some years after his appearance in Thelma and Louise. Keep your eye out and see what Brad Pitt offers next.
